Tea is one of the most loved beverages and is consumed in a variety of ways. One of the most common methods is to consume tea with milk. The combination is further paired with sugar and other herbs. However, despite being a famous beverage it is not a very healthy drink to consume. Milk contains lactose which is a simple sugar (galactose+galactose). Simple sugar spikes your blood sugar levels instantly.

Ways to enhance your tea experience
• It is recommended to avoid adding sugar.
• Try to reduce the quantity of milk.
• It is advisable to avoid pairing it with confectionaries or foods with added sugars.
• Instead, you can pair it with options like beans, sprouts, hummus, mixed nuts or seeds. This will make your beverage more nutritious.

Tea with added sugar when consumed with confectionaries increases the GI of the tea further that could lead to hyperglycemia. However, when tea is taken with beans, nuts, sprouts, etc., which are rich in fibre and protein, they could help balance the blood sugar. Studies have shown that consumption of fibre and protein has shown positive insulin sensitivity.
