Soup is an age-old doctor’s remedy for the sick. The warm soul food for winter. However, many of us add corn flour or some other thickening agents to soups to make them thicker and creamier. But, this can make the soup unhealthy. It is important to choose healthier options for thickening your soup. Also adding other nutrients make it a wholesome meal. Let’s explore some healthier options for soups.

Modifications for glucose stability
• Go for some broth-based clear soups!
• Chuck in some chicken and egg whites/tofu to thicken up your soup. Not only will it create a more enjoyable texture, but you’ll be ticking off your daily protein quota too!
• Avoid starchy vegetables like corn, potatoes, and peas in the soup

Include non-starchy vegetables like carrots, green beans, and mushrooms, or diabetes-friendly starches such as quinoa, beans, and barley. Opt for soups that contain below 30 grams of carbohydrates per serving. Serve sides of dark green salads with your soups. Avoid high-calorie toppings such as bacon, cheese, or sour cream.
