Tequila is a type of alcoholic drink that is an integral part of many celebrations and events around the world. It should be noted that 42 grams of tequila contain no sugar. There are no carbs at all in this drink. It might lead to hypoglycaemia due to the lack of sugar in this drink, which may cause blood sugar levels to fall.

How to consume tequila and keep your blood sugar in check
• Try not to go overboard when it comes to drinking. Limit yourself to 1 drink.
• Consider pairing your drink with cheese, olives and nuts. The ‘good fats’ (oleic acid) will help stabilise glucose spikes.
• You may have a salad and protein meal combo before indulging in drinks. This macro combo will buffer any alcohol spikes.
• Hydrate yourself with water and salt while drinking to prevent dehydration.

Although tequila is low in sugar, has no carbohydrates and is fairly low in calories, it still may impair blood sugar management. Despite the different things you read about this drink, it is not healthy. Even consuming it with diet soda does not make it healthy to consume. Optimising it can help manage blood sugar levels.
