Bhindi masala roti is a delicious Indian dish that consists of bhindi cooked with herbs, and spices which are consumed with roti. The main ingredient, bhindi, is a low-GI food, rich in fibre. It helps in regulating blood sugar levels. Whereas, roti being carb-rich causes a rapid spike in sugar levels. Care should be taken while consuming the roti. It can lead to hyperglycaemic events.
Stabilising the glucose spikes with bhindi masala, roti
• You may opt for almond flour or coconut flour instead of whole wheat flour/refined flour as it has a lower GI.
• Consider adding cooked protein (100 gms) to the meal. This slows down the digestion of carbs and prevents rapid sugar spikes.
• Add 1 tsp of fat (ghee, butter) to the meal. It reduces glucose spikes while also enhancing the taste.
Foods rich in carbohydrate are broken down into simpler carbohydrates. It is then released into the blood. The blood sugar levels increase when excess carb intake happens. A study finds that this may lead to hyperglycaemia and related issues. Moderation is recommended when consuming foods high in carb content.
