A proper breakfast has the power to set the mood for your day. However, having a sugary breakfast might not be a good choice as it will add to an already elevated blood glucose level. Hormones such as cortisol and growth hormone tell the liver in the early hours of the morning to increase the production of glucose, which gives the energy to help you wake up. Therefore, planning and preparing a healthy breakfast is crucial.

Preparing a balanced breakfast to start your day
• Make sure that your breakfast has a balance of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. A higher proportion of carbs can negatively impact glucose variability.
• Skipping breakfast is not a good idea as it causes increased glucose variability and leads to a drop in physical performance.
• Avoid taking sugary food items for breakfast. Having a sweet breakfast will cause a sudden spike in blood glucose levels, followed by a crash, which can make you feel tired.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Having an overly sweet breakfast can disrupt your glucose metabolism. Your desire for sweet meals may increase throughout the day if you start the day with a high-carbohydrate breakfast. Thus, it is important to have breakfast with balanced macronutrients.
