A delicious indulgent combination of chocolate, caramel and nougat, 5 Star is a yummy treat for chocolate lovers. A 26 gm bar of 5 Star has a calorie count of 117 Kcal and sugar content of 13.3 gm. This is considerably high and may lead to hyperglycaemia. According to Foodnetindia’s safety rating, it has a rating of 4 out of 10, making it unsafe. However, there’s a cheat code to enjoy 5 Star without the sugar spike. Choose chocolate wisely to satisfy your sweet tooth without compromising your glucose levels.

There’s nothing better than dark chocolate
• Look for chocolate bars that contain 100% cacao with no other ingredients.
• If a lower cacao percentage is available, check the label for other additives and stabilisers.
• While cacao butter is okay, watch out for sneaky sugars that may be listed under a different name, such as maltodextrin, dextrose or high fructose corn syrup.

Not only does 100% cacao offer a rich, satisfying flavour but it also contains flavonoids, which have been shown to have health benefits. While 5 Star can be a culprit of hyperglycemia, opting for dark chocolate with high cacao content and no added sugars can offer some health benefits. So next time you’re craving a 5 Star, be sure to read the label and try to avoid those additives, stabilisers and sneaky sugars.
