A refreshing drink for the summer, iced tea with lemon is a delight to have. To prepare the drink, add sliced lemon or lemon juice to freshly brewed iced tea. Green tea or herbal tea can also be used as a base. The lemon provides vitamin C and antioxidants which are beneficial for health. Some variations have sugar added as a sweetener. The addition of artificial sweeteners is harsh on the body as it alters glucose metabolism.

Enjoy the drink with no sugar spike
• Consider substituting your sweeteners with plant-based sweeteners such as stevia.
• Try having your iced tea unsweetened or with low sugar.

The sugar is rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream, causing a spike in blood sugar levels. The body responds by releasing insulin- a hormone that helps cells absorb the sugar from the bloodstream. Higher production of insulin makes the cells resistant to insulin. This is harmful and can lead to Hyperglycemia.
