Chapati or Roti, a type of Indian flatbread made from wheat flour, has a high glycemic index (GI), which can quickly raise blood sugar levels. Paired with chicken curry, which may contain added sugars or carbohydrates, it can further exacerbate the risk of elevated glucose levels in individuals with insulin resistance.

Balancing the Glucose with Chapati and Chicken Curry
• Reduce the quantity of wheat flour or replace it with almond, coconut, or other low-carbohydrate flour.
• Increase the portion of chicken to at least 100g per serving. It is rich in protein and amino acids and can help manage the glucose curve.
• Start the meal with a bowl of fibre-rich salad as it increases the digestion time and thus slows sugar absorption.
• Follow the food flow – Fibre (Salad) > Protein (Chicken) > Carbohydrates (Chapati).

Chapati is made of whole grains containing carbohydrates that are quickly digested and absorbed into the bloodstream. This can cause a rapid rise in blood glucose levels. On the other hand, chicken curry contains protein which slows down the absorption of sugar. So tweak your meal to enjoy that delicious Chicken Curry and Chapati meal without worrying about your glucose levels!
