The Perfect Pairing For Glucose Control: Poha and Eggs

Poha is a go-to everyday breakfast option for Indians. It has a medium glyacemic index (GI) due to the presence of white rice. Having poha regularly may cause a spike in blood glucose levels. Eggs, however, have a very low GI – between zero and one. Thus, they do not cause a significant increase in blood glucose levels. Eggs are also a good source of protein, healthy fats and many vitamins and minerals, making them a healthy addition to a balanced diet. Combining boiled egg and poha can be a good option for a balanced and blood sugar-friendly meal.

Power up your poha
• Consider adding vegetables and nuts to your recipe. Including dietary fibres and healthy fats will slow down the release of glucose in your body.
• You can also choose to have a limited portion of poha (30-50g) with two boiled eggs. Proteins reduce glycaemic responses by delaying digestion and stimulating insulin secretion.

Adding proteins in the form of eggs and nuts to poha can help slow down the absorption of carbohydrates and prevent blood sugar spikes. Overall, the egg and poha combo can be a delicious and blood sugar-friendly meal option, as long as it’s prepared with mindful ingredient choices and portion sizes.
