Chai Latte is a drink made by mixing hot milk with black tea and sugar. It has admirers all over the world. However, despite being a loved beverage it has some health concerns attached to it. The added sugar and lactose present in milk increase the carbohydrate content of this drink. They both are simple carbohydrates that can spike your blood sugar levels.

Ways to minimise glucose spikes from Chai Latte
• Try to avoid adding sugar to it. The unsweetened beverage is a healthier option.
• Reduce the quantity of milk if possible.
• Avoid pairing it with confectionaries or foods with added sugars.
• Consider pairing it with options like beans, sprouts, hummus, mixed nuts or seeds.

Both sugar and lactose is converted into glucose. Excess glucose is stored in the form of glycogen in the muscles and liver for later use. Some side-effects of taking sugar are obesity, cardiovascular diseases.
